Obviously a great book. While I knew the story well, this was my first time reading through start to finish so it was fun to see how it differed from the movies I’ve watched and my own understanding of the story. The kids enjoyed it but they were a bit on the young side (11, 9, and 5) so while they followed the overall story especially the bigger scenes, they struggled to stay engaged during the slower tolkien-esque places. I do think they’ll be excited to watch the movies now which I hope will help them understand more of the middle earth story. I’ll probably wait a bit before diving into Lord of the Rings.
